Personalize Windows 8.1 Lock Screen Background, Apps & Slideshow Feature

The users, who have recently switched to Windows 8.1 from Windows 7 will not aware of the functions of the Lock Screen in Windows 8.1. For their information, the Lock Screen is not only a protection Screen that appears at the start when you are going to launch Windows 8.1, but it also carries some important widgets for the user. You can personalize Lock Screen in your desired way. It is not difficult for you to add more widgets to it or to use the camera on Lock Screen and even to change its background image.

Change Lock Screen Background

If you do not like the current background of your Lock Screen, you can change it. Even you can set your picture as the Lock Screen background. Here is how you can do so.

Step 1: Go to the Start Screen where you need to move the point of your mouse to the extreme right corner at bottom of your screen where a “-” sign appears. Click this sign and it will show you the “Charms Bar”. Here you need to select “Settings” from the Charms Bar.

Change PC Settings Option 2Step 3: Once you have done with it, you will see “Change PC Settings” menu on your screen where on the top of the list you will find Lock Screen image. Click the image to go ahead in the Lock Screen section.

If you want to view your emails, weather, time or calendar on your Lock Screen, Microsoft has made it easier for you now. You just need to select your desired widgets and you would be able to view them all on the Lock Screen even before log on to your system. Here is how you can do so.

Step 1: In the Lock Screen menu, you need to scroll down to the center of the page where you will see Lock Screen Widgets option.

Play a Slideshow on Your Lock Screen

If you want to play your desired album photos in a Slideshow on your Lock Screen, you can do it by enabling the option “Play a Slide Show”. You just need to add the pictures in it and it will play a slide show for you. You just need to select the time whether you want to start the Slideshow after remaining Windows idle for 15 minutes or less time.

We have explained earlier in detailed tutorial that how you can enable/disable camera app on your Lock Screen in Windows 8.1. Here is again a brief about it.

You need to go to the bottom of the page where you will find “Use Camera on Lock Screen” option. Here you will find the Camera option in “Off” mode. You just need to bring it in “On” mode and you would be able to use the camera without logging in to your system.
